Home in Valle D'Aosta (Italy) |
In an extraordinary position with a
powerful view over one of the most beautiful valleys of Valle D'Aosta,
we have restored an old stone house that a couple of British citizens
had just bought to create their own Italian paradise. What they expected
was a home with the traditional characters of local buildings. To reach
this result we decided to keep as much as we could of the ancient building
working very softly on it in order not to lose anything of its own personality.
We used local materials for structures (stones and wood) and local stones
for the roof. All the materials are shown exactly as they are, with no
plaster or paint on the exteriors. The interiors have the same atmosphere
as the whole building. In the ground floor the old stable has been converted
into the kitchen and the original and beautiful stone vault has been restored
and left visible. On the upper level the big living room has a peculiar
proportion with the timber roof structure playing an important role in
the play. The result is a building perfectly integrated within the local
tradition, a house built in continuity with the old village around it,
a home able to offer an unforgettable relax in front of the marvelous
Alps of Valle D’Aosta .
