Interior spaces in San Carlo Hospital - Genoa
The orthopedics unit in a hospital, is a place where people usually spend a long time: weeks, sometimes months. So we decided to design a place that was much more similar to a home than to a traditional hospital: in order to create an intimacy that could give the inpatients a better stay in the place. We are sure that living in a better place and being a little bit happier, gives the possibility to heal in a shorter time. Of course we had to follow all the laws and rules of the hospital life, but we definitely wanted to give the inpatients a more confortable place respect to the traditional ones. For this reason we have decided to work on materials, lighting and space proportions. So the corridor has been transformed into a living space and the room doors have been hidden. Lighting has been thought as for a residential unit and the main walls have been covered in wood. From the big windows in each room, you can see the marvelous coast of Liguria and the beautiful see and the frames of the windows are in wood as well.
