A home with its heart in the kitchen is one where people care for their nutrition, as well as their intimacy and the moments they spend together. The importance of nutrition and food in our society has brought about changes in home organization, and this renovation is a prime example. The clients are a young couple without children, who are lovers of cooking and fine food. Their work schedules, like many others, lead them to meet primarily during mealtimes; therefore, the main environment of their life as a couple is the kitchen itself, even before the living room.
We therefore designed this house starting from this space, locating it in the most beautiful part of the home to allow them to enjoy the best possible light. We also had experience from previous renovations with these characteristics, which served as a starting point for the project.
However, this kitchen is not enclosed in a hidden room as in years past; on the contrary, it is an environment perfectly on display and recognizable from any point in the house except for the bedrooms and the bathroom.
The space is extremely refined, sophisticated, and rich in technology, appliances, and cooking tools, all carefully selected to compose a functional and aesthetically coherent picture. The central island is the point from which the space originates: a proportional and functional element around which all movement takes place.
A short distance away is the living room, in close contact with the kitchen and the “cooking area,” from which it is perfectly visible and features a sofa in the same colors. The backdrop of the spatial ensemble is a false wall (similar to the Genovameravigliosa house) animated by small shifts emphasized by the use of different colors.
This false wall does not stand alone but is mirrored on the opposite side with the same characteristics and masterfully decorated using Sikkens paints.
The unity of the environment is also linked by the false ceiling, which articulates the upper part of the entire living area and houses the lighting: spotlights, lamps, and colored LED strips that allow for changing the color temperature of the rooms and the tone of the interior architecture light.
A sober renovation but realized with great character, a renovation designed to improve the lives of the people who inhabit this home with its “heart in the kitchen.”
